This initiative’s objective is to enable Eskom’s in-house teams to obtain expert engineering, project management, project development and specialised services in a streamlined process on an “as and when required” basis. Certain requirements must be met by the appointed Panel B companies. This means that the consortium’s joint capabilities have been assessed by Eskom and are deemed acceptable to provide the necessary services. These services are required in areas such as: Coal Fired Technology, Hydro and Pumped Storage Technology, Open or Combined Cycle Gas Turbines Technology, Heat Recovery Steam Generator Power Technology and Marine Engineering, amongst others. Approved Panel Service Providers will be invited to bid for specific “task orders” issued by Eskom at various intervals and the underlying objective of this initiative is to provide an environment that will result in smaller engineering companies being “upskilled” in the process (through the Joint Ventures) while, at the same time, assisting Eskom with the backlog of work in their power stations.
