Picturesque Karoo Towns get a Water and Wastewater
Infrastructure upgrade
Bosch Stemele Graaff-Reinet Sewage upgrade – 315mmø gravity sewer.
Camdeboo Municipality appointed Bosch Stemele to provide
consulting services to upgrade the water and wastewater
infrastructure of Karoo towns, Graaff-Reinet and Aberdeen.
Graaff-Reinet phase one consisted of replacing various outfall
sewers and pumping mains, and constructing a gravity
water main that connects to a booster pumpstation. Two
pumpstations were upgraded with larger capacity pumps and
new electrical supply. An additional gravity outfall sewer was
replaced and another pumpstation upgraded during phase
two.

In Aberdeen phase one, a new gravity sewer and pumpstation
were installed and one of the existing sewer pumpstations
upgraded. Phase two consisted of the construction of a
pumping main to the wastewater treatment works and
replacing a gravity sewer.
Challenges encountered included utilising diversions and
by-passes while upgrading and replacing functioning
pumpstations and gravity sewers. Reinforced concrete
manholes were constructed for pipelines within the Sundays
River flood plain. Pipe protection walls were constructed on
