Cancer Nurse awarded at Getting Glam for Gynae event
Tauranga Hospital based Cancer Nurse Coordinator Maria Stapleton has received a Certificate of Appreciation from the New Zealand Gynaecological Cancer Foundation ( NZGCF ) at its recent annual Getting Glam for Gynae charity event .
Maria moved to Tauranga three years ago , to take up the newly established position of Cancer Nurse Coordinator .
She is one of three cancer coordinators to receive the award which recognises the impact this role can have on both the patient and their family , as well as for the medical teams .
Every year in New Zealand , three women are diagnosed and one woman dies every day from a gynaecological cancer .
In our region , Maria is the single point of contact for women for diagnosis and treatment of Gynaecological cancers . She also ensures that psychosocial support is available them .
This role involves a high level of knowledge and understanding of the Gynaecological pathway and effective relationships with multiple health professionals across several District Health Boards .
Maria receives Certificate of Appreciation from Prime Minister John Key .
Passionate about improving services for cancer patients , Maria has previously won the Health Informatics New Zealand ( HINZ ) ' Clinicians Challenge ' for the development of a system tracking the cancer journey . She has also written articles and is the national and regional treasurer of Psychosocial Oncology New Zealand ( PONZ ) which aims to support & educate health professionals involved with delivering psychosocial care to those with cancer .

Results for the BOPDHB election have been confirmed , returning the same people to positions on the board .
David Stewart retires from board after 15 years of service
Each DHB has up to 11 members , of which seven are elected . Results are as follows :

David Stewart , one of the longest serving members of the Bay of Plenty District Health Board , chose not to stand for reelection in this year ’ s DHB election .
David has served the Health Board with dedication for 15 years having been elected to the Board in the first DHB election in 2001 .

David served as the Deputy Chairperson of the Board in 2013 and was the Chairperson of the Audit , Risk and Finance Committee from 2013 to 2016 .

David was also Chairperson of the Facilities Management Committee which oversaw the redevelopment and new building at Tauranga and Whakatāne hospitals , through Project Leo and Project Waka . |

The Minister of Health Dr Jonathan Coleman will be appointing four members , including the Chairperson to each of the 20 District Health Boards next month .
