Overview of workshops
‘Creating our culture’ is about translating our CARE values into
the tangible behaviours we want to see from each other, and to
inspire us to keep improving our patient and staff experience.
For a week we will be holding 17 workshops at both Tauranga and
Whakatāne for staff, our leaders, our patients and their families
and whānau.
•
‘In Leaders’ Shoes'. Transformational and practical 2-hour
workshops for all our leaders and managers in both clinical
roles, support services and corporate roles. We have planned
these with plenty of time to reschedule clinical and other
commitments, so over 350 leaders can tell us about the
support you need for values-based leadership.
Titled the BIG LISTEN the week begins on Monday 28 November,
ending on Friday 2 December.
You can book online through OnePlace to ensure you get to attend
the session that best suits you. Please encourage your colleagues
and teams to attend the workshops and complete the survey.
There are three kinds of sessions and several of each type at
different times of the day.
As you read through these pages, you will find out how you can
get involved to ‘Create our culture’.

of staff and patients will tell us what it’s like to work at, or be cared for by our DHB. There are plenty of sessions for

In Your Shoes. Understanding patient and whānau experience
An opportunity for staff to listen to
patients and whānau share their
experiences of our care, and to identify
together the behaviours and
improvement priorities that will make the
biggest difference to patients and whānau
going forward. Up to 30 patients and
whānau and 30 – 50 staff in each session.
• One or two members of staff ‘pair up’ with
a patient or whānau and act as their ‘host’
• Role is to make their ‘guest’ comfortable
• Listen to patient tell their story about their
experience, write down what patients say
• Represent your guest in a group discussion
(game of post-it note ’snap’) to identify
themes and to improvement priorities
In Our Shoes. Improving staff experience
A genuine opportunity for staff to let us
know what it’s like working here. Share
with each what makes a good day and
what makes a bad day at work. Identify
what the organisation can do to improve
staff experience; and what’s up to us as
teams and individuals to help each other
and ourselves to have more good days.
• Staff talk in pairs about their experiences at
work
