GreenDot Mafia:
I need all that! by Co Kane Sosa
I took my phone out of my purse and turned
off airplane mode. Cam was scheduled to pick us up
so I needed to make sure that he was on the way.
Before I could dial his number, a text message from
my mother came through.
“They got Cam. Come home!”
My heart started beating a mile a minute,
hesitant as to what we came home to.
“Bitch, mama just texted me, talking about
they picked up my lil brother, Cam. Something isn’t
right, yo,” I informed Cheree.
Her eyes almost popped out of her head at
the realization. “OMG! What happened?” she
whispered.
“I don’t kn-,” I was cut off mid-sentence.
“Excuse me, ladies, stop right there,” a
husky voice called behind us.
I looked at Cheree and she looked at me,
both of us unsure as to what was going on behind us.
We stopped in our tracks, afraid of who this man was
and what he wanted. Seconds later, a special team of
officers swarmed in and encircled us. Fear raced
through my body as I wasn’t trying to go back to
prison. I worked too hard on these streets to go back
behind the wall.
“Get on the ground, NOW! Place your hands
behind your head and don’t even sneeze wrong,” the
black officer barked.
I got down on the ground instantly,
remembering what this was like five
years ago when I was charged with crimes that I
didn’t commit. I looked at Cheree, who stood
unbothered and unmoved.
“Get down, NOW!” a white officer
demanded.
“Fuck you, cracker. Put me down!”
Cheree proudly responded.
“Ma’am, this is your last warning: get
down on the ground and put your hands behind
your head,” the officer warned.
Cheree stood strong in her stance as I
watched her from my position. I silently begged
her to get down before anything uncalled for
happened but she refused my requests.
“If y’all not arresting me, I’m calling my
lawyer and walking the fuck up out of here,”
Cheree educated them, reaching in her purse to
retrieve her phone.
“Nooooo!” I yelled.
Pow. Pow. Pow.
Pow. Pow. Pow.
Pow. Pow. Pow.
Pow. Pow.
“Nooo, stop! She doesn’t have a gun!” I
yelled, scooting my body over to my dead
friend’s corpse. “Cheree! Cheree! Nooo!” I cried
out loud.
“Move out of the way and stay on the
ground!” the black officer barked.
“Cheree! Cheree!” I cried. (to be cont)
