"The Various"

"The Various", authored by Steve Augarde contains 447 pages. The book was published by Yearling, an imprint of Random House Children's Books on November 2005. The reason I chose this book was because it seemed interesting and the cover page also made it seem mysterious, especially seeing that angel like creature on the old broken down tree with a thorny plant at the bottom. The back of the book gives a short summary of the book, which mentions little people, piskies, and fairies that live within our world.

The books main character, Midge, is a young girl who has to spend her summer at her uncle's farm. Midge is tired of always having to stay behind while her mom gets to go on gigs. While staying at her uncle's farm, Midge meets a magical horse-like creature named Pegs. Later in the story Midge gets to go into the magical world Pegs lives in. Midge is about to meet the queen.

This book is well understood. The author, Steve Augarde, does a nice job on developing a setting, plot, and characters. In my opinion, I think this book shows how you can never know what lives beyond this earth. I specifically liked the part were Midge got to go into the magical forest for the first time ever. The part I didn't like, on the other hand, was when the magical forest was about to be destroyed. Overall, I believe this book is an example on how amazing things can happen when you set your mind to it. Although I can't relate to this book, do recommend it. This book might appeal to a curious and adventureous person.
