Coordination Chemistry and Crystal Engineering of Picolyl- Substituted Cyclic Amines
An understanding of the subtle interactions in coordination compounds is vital in designing new functional materials for applications in a variety of areas such as drug delivery , carbon capture and alternative energy . This provides insight into what governs the formation of these compounds and this can be considered when designing a material with a specific property in mind . In this work , three structurally similar ligands were combined with cobalt ( II ) and silver ( I ) salts to show the effect of a small change in ligand structure or metal salt on the interactions present in the resulting compounds and how this affects the overall structure . This study confirmed that even a slight variation of synthesis conditions and components had a notable effect on the final crystal structure , providing insight into design approaches of future functional materials .
