Crunch on carrots for a
cleaner mouth
Eating carrots can scrape off plaque and food particles just
like toothbrushes and toothpaste. Chewing on carrots also
stimulates gums and triggers a lot of saliva, which balances
out cavity-forming bacteria. As an added bonus, the nutrients
and minerals in carrots prevent tooth damage.
Slap on the sunscreen
Sunscreen can protect your skin against skin cancer and premature
aging. But it needs to be applied properly. Choose a sunscreen that
has an SPF of 30 or higher, is water-resistant and provides broadspectrum coverage to protect you from UVA and UVB rays. Apply
sunscreen generously before going out as it takes approximately 15
minutes for your skin to absorb it. Re-apply sunscreen at least every
two hours or immediately after swimming or sweating excessively.
Make sure you eat
breakfast
Mom was right – breakfast really is the most
important meal of the day. Fibre in the morning
means less hunger late in the afternoon, when
you’re most likely to feel tired and gorge yourself
on sugar. Try eating some delicious oats mixed
with raisins, nuts and cinnamon to keep your
metabolism boosted throughout the day.
Get ready for ripe, juicy
mangoes
The most widely consumed fruit in the world; mangoes are
available in South Africa from December to March. Some
of the possible health benefits of eating this delicious fruit
include a decreased risk of macular degeneration and colon
cancer. Eating mangoes also improves digestion and bone
health.
