This total refers to the sum of all processed claims that Bonitas did not pay in full. This includes instances where the benefit limits were exceeded or a co-payment was applied. It is important that you submit all claims to the Fund, even if your day-to-day benefits are exhausted. These claims will accumulate towards the amounts reflected on the tax certificate for claims not paid by the Fund, which could be beneficial to you in terms of your tax reimbursement. Only claims processed between 1 March 2018 and 28 February 2019 are included in this total. Claims processed after 28 February 2019 will be included in next year’s tax certificate. What does the medical fund contributions total on my tax certificate refer to? This total is the sum of all contributions received by Bonitas from you between 1 March 2018 and 28 February 2019. If you have paid contributions directly to the Fund, there will be a Rand value in this field. If your contributions have been received through your employer, this field will say ‘Refer to your IRP5’. You should then refer to the IRP5 you received from your employer for your medical aid contribution total. If you are a pensioner you will have received an IT3(a) certificate from your pension fund which will state your medical fund contribution total. Page 14
