During the holidays, diets go out the window and over-indulging in goodies is common.
Try these tips to avoid gaining extra kilogrammes.
Never skip breakfast
Eating a good breakfast that is rich in protein, carbs and healthy fat boosts your metabolism into high
gear and provides energy for the day.
Opt for green tea
Green tea contains a range of catechins and antioxidants that help to speed up your metabolism.
For a refreshing summer drink, try green tea with mint leaves, lemon and a touch of honey.
Grab a snack
Studies reveal that when you eat five to six t imes a day you are less likely to overeat and more likely to
stay energised. Opt for protein-rich snacks such as biltong or nuts to help you feel fuller for longer.
Say yes to seafood
Seafood is the ideal summer meal. Grill salmon, tuna and calamari for a low-kilojoule,
protein-packed lunch or dinner that’s high in flavour.
Keep your energy levels up
Limit your intake of fat and sugar and focus on carbohydrates. There are plenty of tasty fruits
and veggies to choose from such as watermelon, mangoes and cucumber.
Beef up your burger
There is nothing like a nice juicy burger on a lazy summer day. Make it healthier by opting for
wholewheat buns, lean meats and delicious toppings like pineapple, guacamole and feta.
If you have to have a drink, do it right
For those who love their beers choose healthier beers, they are rich in antioxidant.
Opt for low-kilojoule or light beers, where possible.
Work out safely
Avoid working out in the afternoon, because temperatures are souring between
12 midday and 3pm. Drink water at all times to avoid injury or heat-related injury.
