Get active often
Tracking your exercise progress can
improve your motivation. If you have
no time for gym, sneak in workouts
during the day. Climb the stairs,
park your car further from your
office or go for a walk during
lunch to get your heart rate up.
Switch around your exercise
routine occasionally so you
target all muscle groups. Don’t
expect drastic, visible results
after a week or a month of
a new exercise routine. Be
consistent and patient and
combine working out with
fun. If you go for brunch on
the weekend with friends,
include a hike, ParkRun or yoga
class. Exercising this way will help you
keep active.
Move to the melody
Music can improve your overall well-being.
Songs with a slow tempo, gradual chord
progressions and drawn-out notes tend to
be calming. Listening to ‘relaxing’ music aids
to regulate emotions, creates happiness and
helps you relax daily. Music has been shown to
reduce stress and anxiety in healthy people. It
helps improve your mood, assists in managing
pain and allows you to express your emotions.
The repetitive elements of rhythm and melody
also help our brains form patterns to improve
our memory. Music has been used to promote
communication, coping, comfort and improve
cognition. Be sure to turn up those melodic tunes.
