Her Fear By Najwa Joumblat Grade 5 Fear is something we can’t get rid of, it’s like a stain on your shirt that won’t go away. But if you try hard enough, maybe you can conquer it. And that’s what we’re going to see our pal here Rebecca do. So let’s see how she is going to do it. It was a cold and stormy night, as Rebecca was running, Her feet were getting soaked as the water splashed on her shoes. She was running because she was late for her night shift at a restaurant, she was a security guard. She hated the dark, but it was the only job she could get into. Rebecca breathed heavily, as she arrived to her destination. She took her keys out, unlocked the door, and got in. She got frightened when the darkness surrounded her. Her parents said the job would be a good way to face her fears. Rebecca didn’t want to admit it, but her parents were right. The clock struck 12:00 am, her shift has started. Rebecca was startled when the loud bell chimed, “Rebecca pull yourself together! It’s just the dark, it can’t hurt me” she thought to herself, as she turned on the flashlight. “This is going to be boring” Rebecca said to herself, but oh how wrong Rebecca was. It was 4:00 am, and Rebecca was trying hard to stay awake, until she heard a sound, she started to wake right up. “Who’s there?!” She asked nervously. Suddenly, something jumped on her and started licking her face. Rebecca screamed, then found out it was a puppy! “Are you lost little guy?” She asked the dog, not expecting an answer but a nod. “No worries, I’ll help you out!” Rebecca lifted the dog up on her arms. And just in time, the bell of the clock went out, alarming Rebecca that her shift was over. “I guess there was nothing to worry about” she thought to herself as she took the dog back home. See? I told you it’s possible to conquer your fears! You just got to try, try and try again! And if you were able to clean one of those fear stains of your shirt, and remove the next one. So remember, if you face your fears, you won’t need to face it ever again. ‫مدرسة بولدوين العالمية‬ 56
