4. How can culture and environment affect the success of your school? Culture and environment are usually inspired by the leadership style built within the organization, and as I explained my view on leadership in question 3 above, it reflects the kind of culture we have at play. The sense of cooperation between each other, the sense of taking initiatives to improve our services, the sense of empowerment to make a difference in the lives of our students, are all common attributes of our culture that we try to preserve and improve. In addition, we made it clear from the beginning that the school has no political and religious flavor, and this is, of course, in a country like Lebanon, made the environment much more relaxed and friendly. 5. What are the basic elements of your institution? The basic elements are the students and their parents who made the decision to register at Boldwin, teachers and staff, transportation office, the school infra-structure, building and facilities, our publishers and partners and civil society. 6. Do you as a manager understand each and every role in the operation of the school? Well I definitely understand the roles of everyone hired, usually I write the job description of our employees, and I know what to expect from each one of our team. I think all managers should have a grasp the main functions of each department / individual of their organization. 7. How can you describe the control system in your institution? Control as “quality control” is carefully maintained through student’s academic and non-academic performance check-ups, parents’ evaluation of teachers and staff, and staying up-to-date from coordinators on the progress of work. Yet, if “control” is meant as a management style, I’m totally against it. As you know, some managers try to interfere in every bit of work of their subordinates, which is very frustrating for the employees. I define task outcomes with deadline to our team, and I don’t go into the nitty-gritty of how each individual achieves this outcome. ‫مدرسة بولدوين العالمية‬ 22
