Anxiety about a hurricane can be overwhelming. Overwhelming anxiety that causes stress, depression and binging. I know this because I have been weathering and overcoming several storms for the past 3 years, especially in 2017.
Just when I thought I was over one, another would hit. Being the survivor I am, I made it through each and every time because of my healthy mindset. I may have 10 or 15 extra pounds of residuals but ummm...I'm OK. I am working towards progression not perfection.
As owner of SMB (Spirit, Mind, Body) Personal Fitness, Inc. and a GO CARES mentor, I'd like to share my WEATHERING THE STORM: THIS Storm, HURRICANE IRMA tips with you.
1. GET UP GET OUT. Grab the kids, pets, etc., get out and get some fresh air. Help the neighborhood clean debris. Lift with your legs not your back. Speak positivity into the air, give thanks and focus on what you still have, not what you lost. Remember, all that lived shall live again.
2. DRINK. Drink ALL of that water you bought up before the storm. It will help flush the snacks, adult beverages and stress from your body from the inside out.
3. WORK IT. Start your workouts back up ASAP. Don't wait for a clean date like “Monday" or "the 1st of next month”. Your gym may not be open but your body is a gym in itself. Releasing endorphins is very therapeutic. Grab a bench or table chair and get busy!
4. CONNECT. If you are without power this is a great time to get close to your family. Technology has turned our kids into robots but without it WE are what they have. Share stories, spend quality time, have a cookout, or play old school games like charades.
