Summer time is almost here! While we can expect warm weather, barbecues, endless summer days and nights, my natural girls and I can also anticipate humidity, a.k.a. curl and coil killer. I love my natural hair, but spending too much time “to do” my hair is not an option for me this summer.
Are you wondering how you will style your hair this summer to avoid humidity or are you bored with your usual hairdo and looking for a new style? No need to worry, because I am here to share some fun low-maintenance hairstyles to protect your hair from humidity and give you a much-needed break from your day-to-day regimen. No matter what category you fall in, these style alternatives will allow you to have more time this summer, so you can enjoy it, regardless of your planned (or unplanned) activities.
Summer is all about relaxation, to get away if you can and get a break from everything, including your hair, right? By being intentional with your style choice this summer, you can maximize more of your time. Consider some of the following temporary styles to kick off your new summer look.
Traditional Braids
With this style, you
will have no worries
for at least two to
three months. You
have the ability to
be versatile in how
you choose to wear
the braids. From a
funky color, the ombre
effect, to wearing
them long or short in
length, the options are endless for tradi-
tional braids.
Crochet Braids: This is a spin-off from traditional braids with a twist. Depending upon the texture of your hair, you can even trick folk into thinking that this is your actual natural hair. If you’ve always wanted a big fluffy afro, then you want to try this look for the summer.
Comb Coils: Comb coils are my new go-to style for the summer (check out my picture) I can get five solid weeks from this hairdo. The first two weeks my hair is coiled. During this period, I only oil my scalp. Once I hit the end of the two-week mark, I uncoil each strand to extend the look and each day, the definition from the coils makes my strands get larger and larger.
Be sure to protect your tresses from the sun by using a moisturizer and/or a hat.
