10 Steps To Embracing Your Next

by Michele Aikens

We are on the verge of a brand new year, full of possibilities and opportunities. You may be thinking of What’s Next for you in an area of your life. Whether you are embarking on a new career or business, or considering a change in relationship, you can help ensure your Next doesn’t turn into your Now by mapping out the journey. I’m not talking about a resolution, but the decision to start a journey to what’s next for you. Here are eight steps that will help you Embrace What’s Next.

1. Assess Now Accurately: One of the reasons we hesitate to move into what’s next is because we aren’t seeing the present clearly. Look at your life squarely in the figurative face and decide if where you are is where you want to be. You will never get to next if now is still ok.

2.Measure the distance from now to next. What will it take spiritually, emotionally, physically and financially to get where you want to be? Count up the cost of moving. We all know people who want to embrace go to the next level, but the requirements of moving are intimidating so it’s easier to just stay the same.

3.Let go of what is. This is painful because what is might be comfortable even if it is not healthy. Imagine in your hand is “Now”, but you want “Next.” Your hand can’t hold them both, you must choose which one you will let go.

4. Map out the first step. We know the clichés, “Eat the elephant one bite at a time,” or “Every journey begins with one step.” Knowing the distance is good, going the distance starts with making a step.

Age is not the determinant of possibilities, but mindset is. Don't count yourself out.
