Parking on nature strips and footpaths
We understand that sometimes people park on the nature strip because they feel it ’ s safer than parking on the road , especially in streets that are narrow . However , the reality is that parking fully or even partially on nature strips and footpaths , regardless of the intention , is illegal .
Vehicles parked on the nature strip or footpath can :
- pose increased safety risks for pedestrians as they are less visible to oncoming cars
- prevent emergency services from accessing infrastructure such as water , sewers , gas and telecommunications
- restrict access for wheelchair and pram users .
Parking on the footpath can significantly impact people with a disability when trying to use the footpath including someone in a wheelchair or someone who is vision impaired .
Please park in your own driveway , on the side of the road or in a parking bay where possible .
