Simple fitness resolutions you ’ ll actually keep

Do you know that the number one New Year ’ s Resolution for Aussies is health and fitness related ? Unfortunately , by the time March has rolled around , many of us have abandoned our well-thought out and complex plans . In this edition of BOLD , we ’ ve taken some time out to meet with Shene and Corey , gym coordinators from the Milne Bay and Highfields Fitness and Recreation Centres to find out some easy tips to get yourself in better condition with simple , easy to follow goals .
Start now .
It doesn ’ t matter what day or month it is , start something now . If you find yourself waiting for perfect conditions to begin your fitness journey , you ’ ll always be waiting . Go for a 20 minute walk or pick up the phone and book yourself into a gym , just do something right this minute . You ’ ll thank yourself for it later .
Be prepared .
Have a think about when you can realistically exercise . Many of the clients we train see us first thing in the morning , that way your workout is done and dusted before you begin your day at work . Training in the morning enhances your metabolism , improves energy levels , regulates your appetite and sets you up for a great day . The early bird definitely gets the worm .
Try different things .
If you do the same exercises all the time , it ’ s easy to get bored and eventually , your workouts won ’ t offer you much of a challenge . If you don ’ t change up your routine , your fitness level will plateau . Variety is the spice of life , so we suggest you diversify your
workouts . If you ’ re tired of lifting weights or walking on the treadmill , take up swimming instead . Milne Bay has a 25m indoor pool and a 50m outdoor pool .
Get tech .
We suggest you get an exercise watch . These handsome little timepieces count your steps , track sleep patterns , record how many calories you burn and even make suggestions on work outs . They ’ re fun to use , inexpensive and a wonderful way to reach your fitness goals .
See an expert .
Finally , if you ’ re feeling unmotivated , in a rut or just not sure where to start , we recommend getting yourself a Personal Trainer . We ’ re here to understand your goals and help you achieve them every step of the way .
