The Hist or y of Chr ist mas
By Rebek ah V.
There is nothing like the joyous
atmosphere of Christmas: the decorating of big
trees, the baking of delicious cookies, the giving
and receiving of presents, or the sound of
Christmas carols being sung up and down the
street. Not to mention the fellowship of family
as they gather together to celebrate the most
cherished holiday of all time.
TimeandDate.com tells us that
Christmas was not celebrated during the time
of the Reformation. Because of all the partying
and merry-making during the holiday,
Christmas was considered un-Christian. Later
on in 1870, however, Christmas became an
official holiday in the United States and is
celebrated annually on December 25th.

But aside from all the parties and
presents, what is the true meaning of
Christmas to a Christian audience? Many
people celebrate the joyful holiday in different
ways, but overall, the true meaning of
Christmas is not based on how or when we
celebrate it, but why we celebrate it.
Isaiah 9:6 proclaims that ?For unto us a
child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the
government shall be upon His shoulder: and His
name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor,The
mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of
Peace." (KJV)
This Scripture is talking about the
Messiah, the Son of God, who was born into
the world, to rescue us from our sins and
restore our hearts to the Father.
Isaiah 7:14 goes onto say that "therefore
the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a
virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she
will call His name Immanuel." (KJV)
Christmas is about remembering the
birth of the Savior Who came into this world to
redeem us!
We as Christians celebrate Christmas by
remembering the birth of Jesus. Luke 2:10 says
?and the angel said unto them, ?Fear not: for,
behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy,
which shall be to all people." (KJV)
Christmas is a time to remember the joy
that was introduced to the world many years
ago. The history of Christmas is based on the
birth of Jesus and is celebrated around the
world with all the wonderful presents and gifts
that God has given us.
