Gown of Leaves
By: Erica L.
The trees rid of the old and wait for the new,
dropping their precious leaves to the ground.
They wore their gowns proudly,
even through the color change,
but now is the time to wear a new garment.
Worn and wrinkled is the seasoned,
looking as if parts could have been moth eaten.
The leaves, orange and yellow, create a new blanket
on the ground as the gown is given away.
The attire is not wasted, but will be merely made anew in
spring.
When the time comes, the trees will receive their new
garments.
And the cycle will begin again.
They will proudly show the world how its leaves change
colors,
announcing the time for the shedding of leaves.
But, remember, their gowns are not wasted,
merely re-purposed.
