New Biology and Chem ist ry
Labs Planned for Fall
By Sabrina B.
AOA has started to add new lab
activities into both Biology and Chemistry
classes. Before this new change, students
had to go to another site called
Hayden-McNeil lab simulators and Late Nite
Labs. Now, students have the lab embedded
directly into the course work through Gizmos.
This will be fully rolled out into the classes in
the 2020 Fall semester.
According to Mrs. Strand, who heads
the science department at AOA, ?It will be for
Fall 2020 enrollments. That means any
classes starting in August 2020 and beyond.
Any classes started before August will still
have the old labs.?
In Biology, there are interactive
activities, such as a virtual frog dissection.
One AOA student, Phillip Berry, remarks that
he likes the new project for Chemistry. ?They
are easier, but you have to be really detailed
in your work to get a good grade,? Berry
shared.
Another great thing about the new labs
is that signing up and accessing the
simulations will be easier for students than
before.
Eventually, the new labs will be used in
middle school courses as well as high school
courses.
