AOA thinks about you L e a r n m o r e a b o ut ho n o r s a n d c o lle g e - le ve l c o ur s e s By Nathan V. Alpha Omega Academy prides itself on meeting the needs of all its students. With this purpose in mind, AOA has given students the opportunity to prepare for college while still in high school. The school offers students both honors and dual enrollment courses. Honors courses are similar to regular AOA courses except that they have more rigorous projects and require higher amounts of critical thinking. Mrs. Laci Meinerts, one of AOA?s education coordinators, explains that honors courses look good on a student?s transcript, so taking an honors course will help when applying to colleges and universities. AOA currently offers two honors courses: English IV Honors and US History Honors. Dual enrollment courses, by comparison, are courses offered by partner universities. Students taking dual enrollment courses not only improve their transcript but also earn college credits while still at AOA. The school is currently partnered with Houston Baptist University and University of Northwestern ? St. Paul. Just like AOA, each of these universities are Christian establishments. Mrs. Meinerts explains that these universities seek to glorify God and to trust the Bible as the inspired and infallible Word of God. As such, dual enrollment courses offer students both an increased foundation in God?s Word and advances in their college career. Both honors and dual enrollment courses require students to meet certain qualifications. All that students need to apply for honors courses is their education coordinator?s approval. In contrast, dual enrollment courses have different requirements based on the school and class. With either course type, Mrs. Meinerts states, it is best to contact your education coordinator to find out whether or not you would qualify. Taking either honors or dual enrollment courses is a great way to improve both your education and your college transcript. If you feel like taking one of these classes is a good idea, ask your education coordinator about it. AOA?s education coordinators love helping students, and they would be happy to hear from you! 3
