The movie Holiday Inn was released
in 1942 starring the ever-popular duo Bing
Crosby and Fred Astaire. This musical, true
to its name, features several holiday based
songs and dances. Some of the songs,
which were written specifically for the movie,
are still popular today. White Christmas is
probably the most popular song that was
played in Holiday Inn. This fun musical
inspired the later movie White Christmas
which is also set in an inn. (Fun fact, Holiday
Inn and White Christmas were filmed in the
same inn.)
A Little Bit of the Story:
A song and dance trio Jim Hardy
(Bing), Ted Hanover (Astaire), and Lila
Dixon hit the stage for one last time. Jim and
Lila are engaged, and Jim is planning for
them to move to the farm he just bought.
Sick of not ever getting a Holiday he wants
to kiss show business good-bye.
Lila and Ted have a different idea, though.
Secretly, Ted professed his love to Lila
and convinced her that she was meant for
him. When Jim finally finds out that Lila and
Ted are planning to stay in show business
together, he decides to move to the farm on
his own. He bids Ted and Lila farewell and
wishes for them to dance into nervous
breakdowns.
After some mishaps and an encounter
with the sanitarium, Jim finally decided that
being a farmer is not his line of work. He
then decides to convert his farm into an inn,
Holiday Inn. His plan is to have an inn that is
only open on holidays. He states that there
must be about fifteen Holidays giving him
350 days to ?kick around in?.
What will happen to Ted and Lila? Will
Jim?s inn be a success, and will he ever find
love?
The best way to answer all your
questions is to watch Holiday Inn. It includes
great music and romance. This is one of my
favorites and is a classic.
