At some point in your life, you will
become acquainted with an annoying
issue?writer ?s block. Writer 's block is the
inability to come up with writing ideas and the
difficulty to put those ideas into words.
Writer ?s block can strike when writing an
essay, a short story, or an assignment for
school.
AOA's writing club, ironically dubbed
Writer ?s Block, could be considered a cure for
this debilitating condition. Writer ?s Block is an
enjoyable club that is led by the author and
teacher Mrs. Kristen Parnell. The club normally
takes place on the first Thursday of the month
at 12:00 CT.
Numerous topics are addressed. There
is always something new and exciting to
discover at Writer ?s Block: maybe it is the
?word of the day,? where you are introduced to
a word that you might not have even known
existed; the challenge of writing a piece in as
few words as possible; or writing a beautiful
piece of poetry.
Though the topic of writing might strike
you with fear and uncertainty, you are bound
to come up with something fun and new to
write about after being surrounded by the
other talented young writers of AOA. The
environment will surely fill you with so many
creative ideas that you might wind up feeling
overwhelmed by them all. A good way to keep
track of these wonderful ideas to have a
notebook handy and write them down.
Other than the fun writing challenges at
each class, Writer ?s Block also has an open mic
session twice a year?once in December and
once in May. These open mic sessions are an
opportunity to share a short piece of writing
you have written and get feedback on things
like your writing style or the content of your
work. You could share things like an excerpt of
a novel that you have been working on, some
poetry, or whatever else fancies you and is
approved by Mrs. Parnell.
If you miss the online class or do not
feel like joining a large group of busy people,
you can find the class information recorded
separately by Mrs. Parnell and posted on
YouTube. Do remember that if you look for
these videos, you will have to put in Mrs.
Parnell?s pen name: ?Kristen Hogrefe.?
With all that being said, come join
Writer ?s Block next time, and immerse yourself
in the creativity. Due to Christmas and New
Year ?s break, the next class will be Thursday,
January 9, 2020.
