They walked into a small perfume shop
on the border of Times Square. Giselle giggled
as she squirted several different scents onto
her wrist, ?Yes, this will make ?em all fall in love
with me.?
?Definitely. The mix of pomegranate,
rose, lemon, and apple smell great on you.?
Kayra said sarcastically.
Giselle batted her eyelashes, ?Yeah,
yeah, whatever. It?ll make them swoon. Trust
me. I?m an angel; of course it smells great.?
Rolling her eyes, Kayra said, ?You care
too much, Giselle. You can be ridiculous
sometimes.?
'Maybe. I?m going to pay for these, ok??
"Ok, I?m going to run to the bathroom.?
Kayra dried her hands as she heard a
loud screeching outside the door. She rushed
to the door, but when she tried to open it the
door remained still. She struggled, pushing the
door with her shoulder when she smelled
smoke.
"This isn?t happening!? She said to
herself before screaming, ?GISELLE! HELP!?
After what felt like an eternity, she
heard what sounded like a bomb exploding
outside the door. Tears fell when she heard
Giselle?s frantic voice after, ?Kayra!? Kayra
where are you!??
' In the bathroom! The door is stuck!?
?I can?t get to you! A beam fell in front of
the hall!?
?Get help!?
Smoke crept under the door like a
deadly fog. After she wet a paper towel to
keep from inhaling too much smoke, she sat
there and prayed like she never had before.
Finally the door opened and a firefighter
stepped in.

It was late at night in glorious New York
City. Both girls were still recovering
emotionally and physically. Giselle had gotten
a second degree burn while trying to move the
beam from the door and Kayra?s lungs were
still healing. Kayra glanced over at her best
friend?s burned arm before she asked, ?What
do you think of New York City? Besides the fire
I mean.?
?It?s amazing!? Giselle giggled.
Kayra smiled, ?How about? ?
?What should we do tomorrow? Maybe
you could drive us around the City! It would be
so cool! We co--?
?Giselle? ?
?Yes??
?I don?t? I don?t have my license.? Kayra
blurted out.
?You?re seventeen! Who doesn?t have a
license at seventeen?!?
?I... I don?t.? Standing up, she continued
with the little courage she had, ?I do not have
my license. I cannot and will not drive.?
?Why won?t you drive??
?I?m scared!!?
?You?re in complete control!!?
?SO WAS MY MOM!? Kayra sat back
down, fighting back the tears that threatened
to spill.
