Lake Country is a golfer’s paradise. There are 23 public golf courses in Waukesha County, and more than a few private courses. If the gentleman’s game isn’t for you lessons are available at many pro shops. If the lessons don’t help you see improvement perhaps try another lifetime sport, tennis. There countless courts scattered all over Lake Country.

A great way to cool off after a hot day is to go for a swim in one of the many lakes. The Pewaukee Beach is fun for the whole family, great swimming and a sandy beach conveniently located near delicious restaurants, especially the Chocolate Factory. Lake lovers can also watch one of the many regattas scheduled for this summer. Local yacht clubs have weekly races, for boats as small as Optimists (7.75 feet) to vessels as large as E scows (38 feet). Children can learn to sail and gain a lifelong skill on the water.

Even if there is no wind there is still plenty of lake activity. Fishing, a relaxing hobby, is a great way to spend a day because anglers are bound to catch something. Water skiing, wakeboarding and tubing are also popular. To pick up tips from the pros watch the Pewaukee Lake Water Ski Club in action. The group performs for free on Thursday evenings; seating is available at Lakefront Park.

Outdoor enthusiasts will love the many area parks. Bring your dog to Nashotah Park, or your carry-in boat (canoes and kayaks) to enjoy a day on Forest Lake. Children will love playing at Nixon Park, especially at the new Splash Pad. Complete in 2013, the Splash Pad is a zero-depth water play area guaranteed to cool off visitors. Get in touch with nature while hiking the Ice Age trail. The trail weaves around the state, but there are sections in the Lake Country area.

On the inevitable rainy days visit one of the many local libraries. Curl up with a book for free, or check out a movie to watch with the whole family. Story times are available for children at least once a week. The Lake Country Fine Arts School and Gallery, located in Hartland, offers summer camps and classes geared to teach and hone artistic skills. Take the kids on a drizzly day and create memories that will last a lifetime.

It is nearly impossible to be bored on a summer day in Lake Country. Residents can enjoy essentially they want, from hiking outdoors, to shopping local boutiques, to curling up with a good book. The best way to have a great summer is to get out and enjoy everything our area has to offer!
