BLOUNT COUNTY IS
DOGGONE FUN!
BY LEE ZIMMERMAN
If you’ re like many pet owners, you feel a certain amount of guilt when going out and leaving your furry friends behind. After all, when one lives in an area that’ s dominated by beautiful natural surroundings, it seems only natural to invite your pets to come along. Happily then, we were able to sniff out some spots where they would be welcome … and, of course, their masters as well.
PETSAFE DOG PARK
Given that Blount County is an essentially dog-friendly place to begin with, it’ s no surprise that there are several places where canines and humans can spend special time enjoying one another’ s company. The most obvious example is Petsafe Dog Park, located near Pistol Creek in Maryville’ s Bicentennial Park. It consists of two adjacent spaces, one set aside for small dogs and the other for the bigger breeds. Both provide plenty of room to romp, relax and claim a portion of the turf while their owners look on. A pavilion, benches, and waste stations make that observation easier.
CALLOWAY’ S
Credit the owners of Calloway’ s on Montvale Road for setting a space aside specifically for the pets. A confined fenced-in area offers a number of amenities sure to provide a doggie’ s delight.
MARYVILLE- ALCOA GREENWAY TRAIL
The Greenway turns a leisurely stroll into a petperfect pastime. A paved trail connecting Maryville and Alcoa, it’ s a pooch preferred spot for walking, running or biking with one’ s pet pal.
SANDY SPRINGS PARK
Sandy Springs Park offers another option for enjoying the outdoors with your best friend. A 20-acre linear park, it’ s located on the Greenway in Maryville off Montvale Station Road and Best Street. A small stream parallels the path making it all the more inspiring and inviting.
SPRINGBROOK PARK
Then there’ s Springbrook Park in Alcoa. Known for its beautiful green spaces and walking trails, it also serves as the site for the annual music series Songs By the Brook, a favorite gathering spot for people and pets. Note: It’ s best to hush any howls so as not to distract from the music made on stage.
