Sunrise Shuffle 5K Recap
The annual Bloomingdale Parks Foundation Sunrise Shuffle 5K, presented by Sunrise Chevrolet, was held September 10 at the Johnston Recreation Center. The United States and Track and Field-certified course( IL-16026WR) kicked off the 43rd Annual Septemberfest activities.
A light drizzle and somewhat dreary conditions didn’ t damper runners’ spirits, as they expressed great enthusiasm for the new course and post-race beverages supplied by Church Street Brewing Company.
“ This is one of my favorite races,” said one runner in a post-race survey.“ I’ ve done it three years in a row and I’ ll come back again next year.”
“ This is a great event,” said another runner.“ It’ s my favorite because the people are friendly, it is a lot of fun and it is a great course. Adding the beer this year was a bonus. I will be back next year as this one is a keeper.”

The course started and finished at the Johnston Recreation Center, traversing through the neighborhood around the JRC, as well as Westlake Park and Circle Park.
Proceeds from the run benefitted the Bloomingdale Parks Foundation, which is dedicated to helping the Bloomingdale Park District provide great recreation programs and open space while also assisting individuals gain access to programs, enhancing current programs and making improvements to all of BPDs parks.
