Evaluation of Solutions

After discussing all the issues and solutions with the product, and discovering that there was quite a few I felt it would be best to weigh up the pros and cons of each solution.

The first solution discussed was in relation to the tear under the waistband at the back of the jean. One suggestion we made was to increase the wiegght of the denim, this would decrease the amount of returns of the product due to unhappy customers however this will also increase the price of the product therefore it may not sell as well.

The next solution we mentioned was about adapting the dye used on the garment. We suggested using a better quality dye so that the colours would not bleed onto other upholestry, Similar to our other point this would make manufactruing costs more expensive for Topshop in this case. To commercially perform better they would naturally have to increase the price of the product to ensure that they are still making a profit and not working at a loss.

A solution we came up with for the faulty zip was to invest in better quality zips to ensure that no teeth will fall off or not be made properly during production, again this will increase the production cost and may be better for batch production as it could be a little more time consuming.

Nobody wants to buy a pair of jeans that do not fasten properly, that's why our solution was to make sure that when the manufacturing process was being carried out that paper patterns were correctly matched up in the early stages of the production line. This is a very simple solution however when the manufacturers have so may jobs it becomes easy for mistakes like this to arise. They could possibly employ someone to overlook parts in the production line such as this to

prevent paper patterns being poorly matched resulting in faulty garments being produced. This could be costly due to labour costs then being increased however in the longterm it would be more cost effective as Topshop will not have to be making constant refunds or having to bin goods due to them not being fit for sale.

After that we were thinking of ways to resolve the issues behind the rips in the jeans. We felt that the key flaw in the positioning of the rips was that they would stretch with the movemnt of the consumer and in turn tear even more. Our solution was to move the location of the rips so that they are slightly above the knee, this will prevent the movement of the consumer having such an impact on the way ghe product looks and is meant to look.

Last but not least we looked at the material used for our garment. Due to the jean that has been used it is much easier for it to wear and tear as the wieught is quite low therefore so is its durability.

Our siggestion to imporve this was to increase the wight of the denim as this would make the material thicker which means that it would be able to withstand the consumer wearing the product often. Overall we feel that our suggested solutions would help to imrpove the manufacturing process which will then increase profits.
