We looked at the Jamie High Waisted ankle grazer jeans by Topshop priced at £42.
The first fault we spotted was the tear in the seam at the back of the jeans . A solution we suggested would be to adjust the weight of the denim or when carrying out quality control, ensure that the fabric is caught when sewing the seam.
We came across another fault which was the use of a poor quality dye. This could lead to the dye bleeding onto other upholestry within the wash and ruining that. This is stated on a warning tag on the front of the garment. A solution to preventing this would be to use a better quality dye as this will mean the colours won't bleed.
The next problem we found with the product was that the zip was faulty due to teeth being missing and the zip not fastening smoothly. A suggestion we made to decrease the chances of this
happening would be to use a better quality zip therefore problems would not arise such as teeth missing and also the zip would not be as stiff.
After that we went onto find yet another fault, this was that the button did not properly match up with the buttonhole. This means that the jeans will not sit properly on the persons waist. A solution to this would be to make sure the paper patterns match up properly during the manufacturing process. This will enable the button and the buttonhole to meet up.
The next fault was the placement of the rips, due to them being situauted at the knees, when the consumer bends down these rips would gradually tear more. It is also likely that the user could put their foot through them and tear them even more when putting the jeans on. We came up with the idea of potentially moving the rips slightly above the knee to prevent such a thing from happening.
The final fault we found was the material, due to how thin the jean was we felt that this would made the jeans even more prone to ripping. We suggested increasing the weight of the denim.
