Why nine domains ?
Nowadays at BUas , the diversity in domains is bigger than ever before ! As BUas is getting older , the domains are getting more advanced and progressive ! You might wonder why BUas provides the specific domains that are presented to us at this moment ?
As you now know , NWIT was the beginning of BUas . At the very beginning , the domain of Tourism was introduced in 1966 . Why Tourism , you might ask ? Well , during that time , public transportation and touristic travel started to bloom after the war . 1967 even became the international tourist year ! Touristic expertise was needed , and that is why NWIT established this domain .
In the early 50s , the need of traffic engineers was higher than ever , and this was due to the improvement of mobility and transport . After two university studies , the first HBO study was set up in Brabant . Nowadays , this study is known as the domain Built Environment .
After Tourism and Built Environment were great successes , the Leisure & Events domain was added half a decade later . Leisure & Events was important at this time because many artists started to grow their audiences , due to cable networks , such as MTV . Besides this , it was the time when blockbusters started to rise in popularity . Music and Film events , as well as their event managers , were therefore , in high demand .
Social media platforms , like Facebook , Instagram and Twitter became popular these years . Hotel and Facility were added due to their popularity rising in the Netherlands . The growth of the popularity was a result of the course ‘’ household ’’ becoming obsolete . This course turned into ‘ Hotel ’ or ‘ Restaurant ’.
In the last years , computer developments have been growing exponentially . Even in the media , we see that the demand for programmers and AI developers is high . In the Netherlands , the demand for Data & AI specialists , analysts , consultants and engineers is at its peak . And , as you might know , starting as an AI graduate comes with immediate job offerings . Since 2021 , the Data sciences and Artificial Intelligence programmes are offered at BUas .

Only 2 years later , the domain Logistics was added ! Very logical , of course , as everyone who attended the Tourism and Leisure & Events domains needed people to organise and plan their flow of goods . Furthermore , they also required to organise information and people in the most efficient way , whilst maintaining a low budget !
Then , there was a moment of silence in the domain world at BUas . However , after the millennium change , BUas decided to add four new domains . In three years ’ time , Hotel , Facility , Media , and Games were added . In the new century , the need for media-related products like computers , Gameboys , and more was growing .
