More than 1,300 first home buyers get

their start in Mount Druitt

More than 1,312 first home buyers in Mount Druitt have received support to enter the property market, with new data showing the Minns Labor Government’ s assistance scheme has saved them an average of $ 21,485 on the cost of their first home.
The First Home Buyers Assistance Scheme provides a full stamp duty exemption of up to $ 30,412 for eligible buyers purchasing a property valued at up to $ 800,000, along with concessional rates for homes priced between $ 800,000 and $ 1 million. The initiative replaces the previous annual property tax option introduced by the former Liberal-National Government.
Across New South Wales, 82,174 first home buyers have benefited from the scheme since July 2023, saving an average of $ 20,475. Of those, 58,111 paid no stamp duty at all, while a further 24,063 received a reduced rate.
The program also complements the Australian Government’ s 5 per cent Deposit Scheme and Shared Equity Scheme, helping more individuals and families overcome the financial barriers to home ownership.
Housing remains one of the most significant cost-of-living pressures facing young people, families and downsizers. Supporting first home buyers forms a
key part of the state government’ s broader plan to improve housing accessibility and affordability, alongside investment in new housing supply, essential services and infrastructure.
Treasurer Daniel Mookhey said the scheme was already helping thousands of people enter the housing market sooner.
“ For more than 80,000 people, this has meant paying less upfront and getting into a home sooner,” he said.
“ We’ re backing first home buyers because everyone deserves a fair shot at owning a home in NSW. As planning reforms deliver more homes, we will continue making it easier for first-time buyers to make them their own.”
Minister for Finance Courtney Houssos said the savings were making a meaningful difference for families.
“ This is a critical piece of the puzzle in
the Government’ s plan to help families plant their roots across the state,” she said.
“ Saving up to $ 30,000 on stamp duty means more money in the pockets of families and more opportunities to achieve the dream of home ownership.”
Member for Mount Druitt Edmond Atalla said the program was helping strengthen the local community.
“ We made a clear commitment to help people access the basics, including
housing, and we are delivering on that promise,” he said.
“ We’ re proud to be supporting affordable housing in Mount Druitt, giving more people the chance to put down roots in a region known for its strong community and bright future.”
