SAVE A LIFE- ADOPT A PET
... FROM THE PUBLISHER’ S DESK... Your thoughts? julie @ hdinews. com. au
Our thoughtful cover this week and articles on p16 / 17 prompt us to keep in mind Remembrance Day on 11 November. At 11am on 11 November 1918 the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare; take a quiet moment out at 11am to remember Australia’ s fallen.
A huge coup for the west is the newly opened Disability Sports Centre at Blacktown International Sports Park. This $ 115 million centre, as well as transforming sport on a local level, will also serve as a key facility for the Paralympic Games and World Championships, p4 / 5.
Another incredible initiative of a very different kind is Street Side Medics which now runs alongside the popular Carevan in Lalor Park. Those of us with Medicare cards and an address to call home may find it hard to imagine people experiencing homelessness trying to obtain healthcare. The organisation, which started in 2020, turns no one away
BCI and treats every client with care and respect p9 / 10.
Our finest this month, Priyan Rajaram, first visited Australia in 2009. Priyan and his wife returned several years later and he is the driving force behind Karma Kitchen. As a young boy a German church gave him a scholarship to attend school, and this was one reason that started his personal philosophy of giving back. Volunteer-based Karma Kitchen started in Western Sydney in 2015 and today it also operates in Canberra, Darwin and Bourke, p6 / 7.
Welcome news indeed- the Albanese Government launched a new initiative last month allowing first home buyers to purchase with‘ just a five per cent deposit.’ Attorney-General and Member for Greenway, Hon Michelle Rowland MP, commented,“ We want to help young people and first home buyers achieve the dream of home ownership sooner,” Ms Rowland said.
Lest we forget
