COMMUNITY
Project Work Connect
Off the back of the success of the Youth Connect project , developed to address youth unemployment in 2023 , North West Community Services have broadened our employment and training program to include all community members within the North West precinct .
The Work Connect project has been designed to support the local community with opportunities for training , skills and work placements within the local community , working towards paid employment .
In response to Jobseeker and Youth Allowance recipients increasing within the Blacktown LGA from 4 % pre-Covid ( June 2019 ) to 5.2 % ( January 2024 ), North West Community Services are seeking to create more local employment pathways for local residents . ( Department of Social Service )
Unlike an employment agency , Work Connect will be working with participants that are looking for some guidance and support to move forward with their employment goals , including workshops , TAFE supported learning and work skills placement opportunities .
The supported environment created by Work Connect offers a unique opportunity for participants to have their individual needs supported , whilst improving their skills and experience , leading to paid employment .
Work Connect will be working with local businesses and community members living in the Riverstone precinct and neighbouring suburbs , to support the needs of both , to create training , upskilling and meet individual needs to help employers locate and hire local residents .
We will walk alongside employers to support their business needs , whilst also offering wrap around services for individuals to help provide opportunities for success for everyone . This type of local opportunity for local community members , allows for a sense of inclusion and engagement , which helps grow the feeling of belonging for all residents .
To further the Work Connect project , we will also be hosting a Local for Locals Employment and Training Expo on 16th May 2024 , to showcase the many employment , training , and supportive opportunities available for local community members .
If you are looking to take that next step into training or employment , and are unsure where to start , please contact us to find out how to get involved . Local businesses and employers wishing to contribute to their local community by becoming a Work Connect prospect and offering a pathway to employment or work skill experience , can contact Pamela Wade , Work Connect Project Officer : 0431 392 544 or pwade @ nwcs . org . au .
With support from Work Connect , we are building a stronger community together , by providing opportunities for locals to grow their experience and skills , whilst also growing business locally .
