Boosting Paid Parental Leave with Ed Husic MP

The Albanese Labor Government is working hard to ease the pressure on families in our area .
Our changes to paid parental leave have passed the Senate . These changes increase access to payments for more families and give parents more flexibility to take time to care for their children . It will also encourage parents to share care and promote gender equality .
Single parents will now be able to receive the full 20-week paid parental leave entitlement , up from the current 18 weeks . The changes will come into effect for parents whose children are born or adopted from 1 July 2023 .
Improving paid parental leave is the right thing to do . I am proud to see the Albanese Labor Government support women ’ s workforce participation and help more dads and partners take time off work to be with their children .

Reconnect funding to help young people in Greenway at risk of homelessness

with Michelle Rowland MP
The breakdown of family relationships is a leading cause of youth homelessness .
That ’ s why the Albanese Government is investing $ 91.7 million into youth homelessness through the Reconnect Program over the next three years .
Reconnect is a community-based early intervention and prevention program targeted towards young people who are experiencing or are at risk of experiencing homelessness , and their families .
Through Reconnect , young people aged 12 to 18 years ( or 12 to 21 years for newly arrived youth ) can access
counselling , group work , mediation and specialised mental health services , to improve relationships with their family , stay at school , and participate in their local community .
This funding will deliver vital services in Greenway and right across the country to support young people and their families in times of need .
Our local Reconnect services in North West Sydney are :
- Level 5 , 31-39 Macquarie Street , PARRAMATTA , NSW , 2150 - Level 1 , 41-45 Rickard Road , BANKSTOWN , NSW , 2200
- 91a Kurrajong Avenue , MOUNT DRUITT , NSW , 2770
These locations will provide meaningful help to combat youth homelessness . Our hope is that , through this funding , thousands of young people and their families will continue to benefit from improved family ties , engagement in education and employment , and enhanced community connections .
