The Ateres Yaakov Star – Purim Edition March 2015 3 MAY Mock Trial Team Represents MAY in Court By Yaakov Eckhaus- 11th Grade This past week, MAY announced the hiring of its own Mock Trial Team to represent them in the Lawrence Justice Court. The Mock Trial team is acting as counsel in a civil case against several property owners on Mulry Lane who are being accused of purposely halting the process of building the gym through various legal and illegal means. The Mock Trial team has been aggressively preparing their arguments and has crafted what they believe to be a surefire relief injunction that will stop the actions of the local residents and allow the gym project to commence. David Kirschner, Esq., the coach of the team affectionately known as “Coach K” explained that, “These boys SAT/ACT are superb trial attorneys. If they can make the semi-finals year in and year out against the other local schools, then a few elderly neighbors on Mul- ry shouldn’t be a challenge.” The judge has yet to make a decision on MAY’s initial filing, but Rabbi Yaffe was so impressed with the performance of the Mock Trial team that he has decided to let them represent MAY in all legal situations, citing both the financial savings and the potential for Kiddush Hashem that such a move would have. One anonymous member of the administration said, “The goal of a high school is to equip its students for the real world and to be Bnei Torah and adults. We already have Reuven Rosner, a student, teaching an elective class. The school newspaper is produced entirely by students. Taking the ‘mock’ out of Mock Trial seems the obvious next step. Who knows, maybe my job will be taken over by the G.O. next year?” Five Towns Tutoring :By Chaim Homnick ALGEBRA/GEOMETRY REGENTS LSAT AND MORE!
