Play Ball!

Playing sports is an enjoyable form
of entertainment and it also serves
as an essential and kosher outlet
for Yeshiva students. The learning
and academics of school are particularly intense in a yeshiva setting.
Most yeshivas end after 6 pm nightly and have school on Sunday
mornings as well.
In that setting, sports can act as an
outlet that provides valuable exercise, teamwork, and enjoyment for
boys. When someone is feeling
down about something, sports
can act as a quick pick-me-up to
distract him and engage him in an
enjoyable pursuit.
Likewise, when one executes a fantastic play in football or hits an
amazing shot in basketball, he can
escape from his ordinary, everyday
life and feel like a superstar. The
feeling then carries back over to
the academic side and the student
will feel different and have the confidence to try harder and excel in
his school work.
Playing sports is also a great form
of exercise and it promotes health.
Kids in yeshiva who spend so much
time in class and additional time at
home studying for tests and doing
homework can utilize sports as an
opportunity to exert themselves
physically and stay healthy.
Playing sports also promotes relationships. Students who don’t
stand out in class or in social
