MAY Sweeps First Torah Bowl Meet
The Torah Bowl season kicked off
this month with its first meet, hosted by DRS. MAY swept the event 4
games to 0. The MAY team beat all
three of the other schools in the
Southern Division: DRS, Rambam,
and Sha’arei Torah-at least once.
MAY faced off against Rambam
first and won 22-10. Back to back
matches with Sha’arei Torah featured similar results as MAY won
26-10 and 25-6. DRS, who had
home-court advantage, put up the
greatest fight but the MAY team
pulled out a 19-11 win. The longest-tenured team members, seniors
Yosef Samson and David Levene,
led the way for the team as they
swept all competition while outscoring them by a combined 92-37

score. This was the second consecutive year that MAY started the
season 4-0, reinforcing their status
as
the favorites in their division.
Yosef Samson, the highest scoring
member of the team, explained
that, “This was a good opportunity
for us to test ourselves and see
where we were holding. I think we
played great as a team and this
meet will help us prepare for the
harder events ahead.”
Rabbi Tsvi Greenfield, the new
Student Activities Coordinator at
MAY, coached the team. He stated
that, “It was truly amazing to see all
the boys get together and compete on their mastery of the first 3
parshiyos in Bereishis.”

The football season is underway in
Mesivta Ateres Yaakov and the
school is alive with team spirit. The
MAY Eagles have dominated the
competition, starting 4-0 with four
20-point victories in the Yeshiva
Football League.
The MAY Eagles kicked off the season by soundly beating Yam HaTorah 27-0. They then defeated Yam
HaTorah again in the second game
and Yeshiva Darchei Eretz (YDE) in
their 3rd game of the season.
Senior quarterback, Ari Shaulson, is
confident about the team, saying,
“Losing in the championships like
last season is not an option this
year. Our team has, and continues
to, put in so much effort into each
game and practice as the season
goes on.” He enthusiastically added, “I’m confident that the trophy
will be ours at the end of the season! Starting offensive lineman Avi
Schwartzblatt also chimed in, saying, “I love being on the football
team. The closeness you feel with
all your teammates is awesome.
Add that to the experience of playing against other teams, which is so
much fun and so intense, the whole
thing is just amazing. ”
