2 The Ateres Yaakov Star A team’s success is determined not only by the star power of the team, but also by the overall effort put in by every single person involved. It’s great having the guy who makes the splashy plays and is a mainstay on the highlight reel, but without the grind-it-out lunchbox workers, a team cannot hope to succeed (see Kevin Love/Minnesota Timberwolves, 2008-2013). Even beyond that, it has been proven time and again that team effort always trumps individual achievement. To draw another parallel to basketball, anybody watching this past year’s NBA Finals was treated to a thorough hammering of the defending NBA Champions Miami Heat by the San Antonio Spurs. On paper, the Heat had a distinct advantage: three perennial AllStars, including the game’s best player, Leb-ron James, against an aging Spurs squad that seemed past its prime. What was the catalyst that sparked such a dominant run by the underdog Spurs? (Hint: it wasn’t the AC fiasco). The essential difference between the two teams was that the Heat had a straightforward “get it to the star” approach, while the Spurs had a potent passing attack that enabled every single player on the team to be productive. This allowed for the team as a whole to stay rested and energetic, without placing too much pressure on any one single player. With their balanced aproach and overall team effort, the team that had once been branded “washed up” took down the Goliath Miami Heat. We feel that our “team”, the staff of the Ateres Yaakov Star, is very much like the champion Spurs. Through everyone’s cumulative efforts we consistently release a remarkable publication that is championship-caliber. Under the guidance of our own “Gregg Popovich”, Faculty Advisor Mr. Chaim Homnick, we operate as a welloiled machine to meet our deadlines and produce quality work. His experience in all literary matters allows us to attain perfection every week. Then there is Binyamin Korn, our fantastic graphic designer. Like Tony Parker, he always finds a way to put everything together and make it look easy. Likewise, acknowledgement is also owed to our tireless writers, editors and advertising team. Without you guys, the paper would’ve remained an aspiration and nothing more. Like Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Kawhi Leonard, you’re always doing the little things right while shunning the spotlight. The Ateres Yaakov Star is a team, and like the Spurs, we’re looking forward to an incredible year together. Your editors, Dani Feit and Baruch Eisenberger P.S. Sorry if we forgot anybody.
