Dr Jitendra Singh calls for focus on control of diabetes in young Addressing the inaugural session of conference on Non-Communicable Diseases as chief guest at New Delhi, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the disease spectrum in India, over the last few decades, has shifted from Communicable to Non- Communicable Diseases WHO South-East Asia countries pledge inclusive approaches for Autism Accelerating efforts to enable people with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders to lead a productive life, countries in WHO South-East Asia Region have adopted the ‘Thimphu Declaration’ which calls for integrating the needs of such individuals and their families into national health and socioeconomic development plans. The Declaration, adopted at the end of the three- day International Conference on Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, emphasizes the need for a whole- of–society and whole-of- government approach to these issues, with specific attention to strengthening national capacities in the health, education and social care sectors to provide effective services and support to people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs). “Inter-country cooperation and partnerships are fundamental to addressing autism in the Region. M ember countries are already demonstrating how progress can be forged, by fun-filled activities for the autistic kids and their parents including a medical clowning session by Mr Harish Bhuvan, organized to entertain the children. Also, the evening witnessed an interactive storytelling session by professional story teller, Mr Vikram Sridhar. as a result of which, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Heart Disease and Cancer have occupied the centre stage. This has, at the same time, also resulted in huge social and economic burden on society which has more than 65 percent of population below the age of 45 and, therefore, cannot afford any drainage or wastage of valuable youth potential. providing valuable learning opportunities that must be embraced and adapted to country needs,” Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director, WHO South-East Asia, said.
