CRISPR-Cas9 and Gene Editing
CRISPR-Cas9 is a powerful gene-editing tool that allows scientists to modify DNA with unprecedented precision . It has immense potential in treating genetic diseases and developing novel therapies .
How does CRISPR-Cas9 work ?
CRISPR stands for " Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats ," which are segments of DNA containing repeated genetic sequences . Cas9 is an enzyme that acts as a pair of molecular scissors . By programming the Cas9 enzyme with a small piece of RNA called a guide RNA , scientists can direct it to a specific location in the DNA sequence . Cas9 then cuts the DNA at that location , allowing for the addition , deletion , or modification of genetic material .
APPLICATIONS OF CRISPR-CAS9
• Genetic Disease Treatment
• Agriculture
• Drug Discovery
• Livestock Improvement
• Conservation Biology
