and has won some of the island’s prestigious awards. One of her life-sized sculptures is even part of the Jamaican National Gallery’s permanent collection. The world celebrates her on a grander scale as a Caribbean artist. Her intricate driftwood sculptures and mastery in the alchemy of transforming natural found materials - clay, seeds, and branches - into objects of desire is her legacy. Her art is in high demand from Berlin to Miami and even right here in Barbados. “I defy the norms.” Nakazzi tells me as we sit in the veranda of Coconut Bay Villa, the lively waters of Silver Sands beach only meters away.
