MY LIFE AS A TECTONIC PLATE

By Carlos SuaƱa

Hi everyone! I am the African plate and I am going to tell you how is a normal day in my life. I am 250 million yeas old and my mother is the planet Earth. I have four sisters and four brothers.

When I was a little baby I lived, with all my family, in a place called Pangea, but as the years went by, we argued and some of us decided to split up in the Triassic period.

I had a very good friend, the South American Plate, but in the Jurassic period we had to separate and we put an ocean ridge between us.

I felt angry for that and, as a consequence, I started to fight with other plates and we created some mountain ranges. Sometimes, when we play pushing each other, we cause earthquakes that affect the living creatures above us, but we can't help it.

Nowadays, I am a tectonic plate that contains the African continent and part of the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans.

"When I was a little baby, I lived with all my family in a place called Pangea"

"Being a tectonic plate is a very hot and exciting experience"

I didn't like it. On the other hand, when I got angry with any of my friends I separated from them letting the magma of the mantle come up to the surface causing oceanic ridges.

Currently, I enjoy being an adult tectonic plate because I can go over baby tectonic plates like Cocos Plate.

The only thing that I don't like is that when I am going to talk to other plates and I collide with them I cause earthquakes that may kill people. It's very sad but I am like that and I can't change.
