Happiness of
Kutch turned
Morose
by Nirmali Nath
It was pretty cold by the end of the
December 2018 which accelerated
my excitement to ride to one of my
dream destination which is "Rann of
Kutch" on my bike on a full moon
night. The Great Rann of Kutch is a
salt marsh located in "Thar Desert"
in the Kutch district of Gujarat,
India. It is also famous for being one
of the largest salt desert in the
world.
Luckily, Rann festival was going on
when I reached. As bikes were not
allowed inside of the festival, I
purchased a ticket of RS 100/- and
hired a camel cart to reach The
White Desert.
The colour of the desert is not
completely white and has a
gradience of brown. I captured
pictures of the sunset and the moon
rising over the horizon. I waited till
the sunset as I wanted to see the
view of the white desert in a full
moon setting. It was amazing and I
was left speechless watching the
vast salt desert looking snow white
and the full moon.
After having some memorable
moments in the white desert, I
started my search for
accommodation. I went to some
resorts and tents where the tariff was
INR 7000 - 8000 per night.
I was shocked to hear the tariff as it
was too expensive for my budget. I
had my dinner in a near by restaurant
and was walking here and there
when a person from nearby village
asked me if I needed any help to
which I replied that I need a place to
stay for the night. He said that his
village was nearby and he lives with
his wife and 5 kids and that I could
come to his place to which I agreed
(Gujarat is absolutely safe for ladies
no matter if you are travelling at night
also). I went to his village and they
offered me a room to stay. It was too
cold to sleep on the floor but they
gave me few blankets and also
lighted some fire.
While sitting near the bonfire, his wife
came and sat nearby. She asked me
how did my parents allow me to ride
a bike and travel alone from Assam to
Gujarat.
