ISSUE 12 | DECEMBER 2019
It was a great experience of riding all the way from
Guwahati to Delhi in the scorching heat. I was
roasted but from inside I was genuinely happy and
satisfied.
One of the best moments was when I crossed Punjab
and entered Jammu. The first glance of the Sindh
River was enough to leave me stunned. My dad was
in army and was posted in Srinagar when I was very
young so that I could not recall my memories but
then I decided to explore Srinagar extensively. I
stayed in a house boat in Nagin lake. I still
remember the 'Shikarawala's song' 'pardesiyo se
naa ankhiyaa milana.' The 'shikarawala gifted me a
beautiful neckpiece, made up of lotus stems and
flowers. Kashmiri people are as beautiful as the
place is, very helpful and large hearted, especially
they respect and care women a lot, what I analyzed
from my experience. Also I payed homage at Kargil
war memorial and prayed for the soldiers who
sacrificed their lives for our motherland when I
crossed Kargil.
Finally I reached Leh and on that day I learned
about myself and became more self aware. I always
wanted to ride to Khardungla pass but never thought
in my wildest dream that my first ride would be to
Khardungla. That very day has been the best day of
my life so far not because I reached Khardungla in
my first attempt but because I had the right attitude,
and that particular ay changed my whole life.

My bike was malfunctioning at Khardungla and was
not starting. I was alone and facing mountain
sickness. At that time, an Air Force Officer came for
my help, he called a truck driver who repaired my
bike then I went ahead to start my ride back to Leh.
I decided that no matter what, I have to keep riding
before I run out of time. I told myself that it's time of
another adventure, I rode via Manali-Delhi-Jaipur-
Agra-Lucknow-Bihar-Siliguri and back to Guwahati.
It was an amazing and life changing 25 days of long
ride on my motorcycle.
What I earned from this ride was the respect for
myself in my eyes and lifelong good friends from
different states. I felt and came across hatred,
jealousy, love, friendship, and human emotions on
this ride. I got to know different people and learnt
how to deal with diverse situations and decided to
live the life I have always wanted, and which I shall
not stop living this life because it was just a
beginning, a beginning of my new life journey, my
rejuvenation.
