Big Move 12th July 2013 | Page 2

This week the Big Move talked to Tony Laycock Programme Manager: Centre for Academic Studies & English.

Tony speaks highly of his involvement with the College's GO-Mad initiative:“A very intensive but productive and useful programme that will have an effect upon my day to day work.”

“We’ve got a lot of people who are quite excited about the new building – they want to be seen to be successful and they want the building to be successful so that we attract new students."

“We’ve heard that there are factors associated with new buildings that actually bring new people in… we look forward to that and we see that as a major marketing opportunity for us.”

We asked Tony what he thought might be the barriers to success?

“I think it could be that staff don’t buy into the vision for the new building and don’t take on the changes and the different ways in which they can deliver the learning for their students”.

Tony makes an important point about the students coming to college and their experience of school - they have an expectation that they are coming into an exciting learning environment.

Tony believes “we need to keep that going because they (students) won’t engage with learning if we don’t.”

Tony's closing message is a pasionate call to colleagues:

“Get involved – have a look at the ways you can shape the future of the teaching you deliver”
