Writing History/Social
Conduct research about one of the largest fires in California’s
history: the Rim Fire in the Sierra Nevada, which took place in
August 2013. Determine how the fire threatened San Francisco’s
water supply and what contingency plans the San Francisco Public
Utilities Commission set in motion to ensure that the City’s water
supply did not get contaminated.

Pose the question: Who owns water? Use the question to launch
research and discussion about the potential consequences of a
growing global population and a finite amount of water on Earth.
