The moment that it’s deemed warm enough to start drinking cider outside, you’ll see the covers come off the barbecues and trouser lengths get progressively shorter until a sea of pasty flesh stretches in to the distance. It’s also that time of year to think about what festival you’re going to attend, and with such a host of great events catering to all kinds of mainstream and niche tastes, it can be a bit of a daunting task. Well worry ye not: Bido Lito!’s serial wristband and lanyard collector Matthew Cooper has traversed this year’s mammoth festival calendar, and put together this selection of the best festivals taking place on our doorstep over the next few months. If you end up at that scooter festival in Runcorn again, don’t blame us… Festival No. 6 3rd-6th September / Portmeirion, Wales Bido Lito! Highlight: YOUNG FATHERS Now in its fourth year, FESTIVAL NO. 6 is becoming a staple in the latter stages of the festival calendar. Set to the iconic backdrop of Portmeirion’s Mediterranean village, it certainly has its visual elements nailed to a tee. It more than matches this musically too, as disco heavyweight GRACE JONES and Mercury Prizewinners YOUNG FATHERS both feature, with many more acts, stages and activities hidden away in the surrounding woods and beyond. Elsewhere BELLE AND SEBASTIAN, STORNOWAY and 2 BEARS catch the eye, but the honour of closing the event once again falls to the stunning BRYTHONIAID WELSH MALE VOICE CHOIR.
