Don't use mobile technology whilst driving
This month, Devon and Cornwall Police are reminding people to concentrate fully whilst driving and not be distracted by using mobile technology.
Driver distraction such as using a mobile phones, tablets or sat navs is one of the four main causes of serious injury and death on the region’s roads. The other three causes are excess or inappropriate speed, drink/drug driving and not wearing a seat belt.
As part of the month long campaign, Road Casualty Reduction Officers will be implementing enforcement activity across the force area to inform and educate drivers.
Any motorists caught using a mobile device while driving will be issued with a fixed penalty notice and will receive a £100 fine and three points on their licence.
Devon and Cornwall Police advise:
• Switch off your mobile device before driving so you are not tempted to use it.
• Don't make or answer calls when you are driving.
• Remember it is illegal to use a hand-held device when driving, even if you've stopped at traffic lights, are in a traffic jam or a car park.
• No conversation, text message or online post is more important than a person's life.
