Hiking
Hiking trails abound in the Black Hills, going through grasslands and pine forests, over creeks and even over boulders. But no matter where you hike, you’ re sure to find jawdropping views. Perhaps the most hiked are the ones to Black Elk Peak where on a clear day you can see five states and which is the highest point between the Rockies and the Alps. At an elevation of 7,242 feet, you come upon an abandoned fire lookout tower situated on the summit. Trail 9 is a relatively easy climb for the physically fit and even children. photos courtesy of Travel South Dakota
